Careers Programme 2007-2008

Year 8

Autumn Term:

•Connexions career booklet distributed.

•Introduction to Fast Tomato

Summer Term:

•Extended Session on The Real Game. This is a role play session, to see where various careers lead and to help see the sort of lifestyle they would like.

Year 9

Autumn Term:

•Review of Fast Tomato.

•Introduction to B-live.

Autumn Term / Spring Term:

•Package on how to make career decisions and option choices.

Year 10

Autumn Term:

Package to make them consider the variety of jobs that are out there, and how to go about investigating them.Reminder on how to use Fast Tomato.

Spring Term:

Go through all the career packages available on network and also suitable websites to help them make their option choices next year.

Year 11

Autumn Term:

•Oasis test + interview, this is run by COA (Careers Occupation Analysts) and involves an aptitude test and career questionnaire. Each student gets a detailed booklet informing them of possible careers and university courses and has an interview with a trained member of COA to help them understand the information.

•Follow up interview with Mrs P Russell if required.

•Module on CV writing and application letters.

•Job application and practice interviews.

Mrs Russell is always looking out for OBMs or parents who would be willing to give up a day/morning/afternoon to help with these interviews. Please contact her on 332525 or russellp@bedmod.co.uk it you feel you could help.

Spring Term:

•Option choice package, to help students make their choices for next year.

•External speakers on alternatives to BMS sixth form and apprenticeships.

•Speakers on various careers students interested in.

We are always in need of speakers, so if you feel you could spare 20 minutes to come and talk to years 11/12/13 about your career please contact Mrs Russell

Work experience after GCSEs

Years 12 and 13

There is a comprehensive package in place to help students make their university choices and then applications through UCAS including:

•Year 12 Careers Day

•Introduction to available packages, websites

•Ongoing UCAS applications

•Students to check and re set targets

•Individual interviews on surgery basis re: applications, personal statement, GAP year, Oxbridge

•Organise practice interviews

•Organise Oxbridge sessions
